Steamed Red Snapper

Steamed red snapper retains the umami of fresh seafood. Delicious and simple to make, it goes well with rice.

Ingredients

2 pounds red snapper

If available:

1 tablespoon soy sauce

3 bulbs green onion

2 ounces ginger

Steps

  1. Fill steamer with water and boil under high heat.

  2. Prepare fish.

    • Clean red snapper innards.

    • If desired, cut fins and tail.

    • Descale.

    • Place red snapper onto a tray that fits the steamer.

  3. Steam.

    • Cut ginger into 3-cm or 1-inch strips. Spread across the surface of red snapper.

    • Cover tray. Place into steamer and steam for thirteen minutes.

  4. Serve.

    • Cut scallion into 3-cm or 1-inch strips. Spill onto red snapper after steaming is complete.

    • Sprinkle soy sauce and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh red snapper for best result.

  • Increase or decrease the weight of the whole red snapper depending on availability and size of the dining party..
